Closing Statement

I attempted to give my readers am inside look of how I go shopping comparing the quality of the produce that I am shopping. I tried doing that by giving them comparison slide shows on some but still keeping my focus on the farmers markets by having that as a focus over all. I also thought about the distance traveled on my GPS last minute, but it just gives my reader an idea of how close the markets could be. I hope I made a point across to my readers and encourage them to go and visit a local farmers market in their area.

Design Plan

Medium and production

I need to take pictures of produce and other products that are used daily and could also be find at farmer markers, but I need to capture them in a way that my readers could distinguish the difference from both products. An apple is an apple what makes it different from the apple grown locally and sold from the direct farmer compared to the apples found at Wal-Mart. I need to figure out a way to show the distance traveled from one to the other in order to convince my readers why they should support local farmers.

Strategies

Ethos: What I am trying to express through the pictures may come out to be demanding, as if shopping at farmer markets is the best and only way to shop from produce. What I am trying to do with the end result of the photo essay is introduce people to another experience and another form of shopping for food.

Pathos: Based on the purpose and ethos I need to make sure the photo essay expresses a different, but welcoming environment. The pictures will capture enjoyment of those attending the farmers market. Also, I hope to include children enjoying themselves, which I hope will encourage my readers to attend after seeing the pictures. In addition, the pictures will capture a sense of a different environment, to encourage others to explore what is in their community.

Logos: Farmer marketing is nothing new; people have been farming for their own good for years. With that being said, I need to capture more then just people exchanging money for goods, but I need to capture the joy of the farmers being able to share something you enjoy doing with ours in their community. I also need to capture and show how that money circulates in the community. That may be a challenge because I do not know what they would be buying with the money earned. Therefore, the argument may take six pictures or more in order to convince my readers they should look into farmer markets or at least visit one.

Arrangement:

Under every picture I will have a narrative explaining the location and a little about that market. I feel like this is necessary in order to inform my readers of a potential location in they live in the area I visited. I start a few pages with a comparison of a few well-named locations; like Wal-Mart or Jewel Osco, for produce. Then the last few slides I will only focus on the markets so they will be the last thing on the readers mind in hopes they go and look up other locations and plan a day to go out for themselves and experience shopping at a farmers market.

Draft of the design plan for the photo essay

Claim 1-  Local produce to reducing ecological footprint
Claim 2- Support local business
Claim 3- Farmers

I will be taking pictures of local farms and their harvest of the current season.
also taking pictures of people shopping at local and near by farmer markets
A new business that is now open that receives all their produce from local farms and ensures that their meat is within a certain radius
take pictures of local signs that claims the food is locally grown
also pictures of produce or products that are fair trade

I will start off by going to a large well known super market and looking for produce that is locally grown and fair trade (pictures)
then i will drive around and take pictures of local farms and their current harvest (pictures)
take pictures of the farmer markets i visit and shop at (pictures)
then take pictures of the new business that is soon or is already open that encourages local produce

My Purpose

My purpose is to inform and encourage others to look into shopping at small local grocery stores. After a year doing my own grocery shopping I have leaned more towards shopping for locally grown fruits and vegetables. This may not be a concern for many of you, but supporting and giving back to those in your area is a positive thing. We are over looking our ecological footprint and local economy by shopping at larger supper markets.  We should help keep our money circulating within our vicinity. If you shop at Wal-Mart or any other large super market your money doesn’t go back into the community like local and small grocery stores. There are many ways that could be possible, one being going to farmers markets, going to farms, and or looking for locally grown signs in the produce section. Of course with the exception of those fruits and vegetables that are not native in the area such as bananas. With those products that need to be imported the very least we could do to support those international producers is ensuring it is a fair trade products to guarantee that their trading conditions are up to standards. Therefore, I will try to encourage and persuade others to minimize their ecological footprint while keeping the money circulating their community.

Photo Essay Ideas

What matters to me the most?
What interests me?
What do you want to learn?
What do you want to investigate?

Family and the relationship between them mean the most to me. We are each others back bone. As well as obtaining a degree and finishing college within the 4 year period. My main interest are cultural diversity and socio economic difference. I started a paper back in high school on how socio economics have a correlation with income. I would enjoy learning how cultural, religion, and economic status has an impact on decisions. Why is it that section 8 and food stamps are being accepted in more locations everyday. I would like to know how could we put an end to the increasing demand of citizens depending on government founds, such as section 8 and link card.
